On VHF, frequencies between 87.5 and 107.9 MHz are reserved for public broadcast. Since radio waves in this range propagate similarly to light, many transmitters on elevated locations (Rigi, Säntis, etc.) are necessary for a complete coverage. Because freqency modulation is used, this band is often called the "FM"-Band
