Packet Radio

To bridge larger distances by VHF/UHF Packet Radio, repeater stations for digital signals were installed (so called Digipeater = digital-repeater). They are interconnected world wide. With this setup, Radio Amateurs have built their own worldwide communication network.

In central Europe, the density of repeaters is so high, that in nearly all locations a digipeater can be reached.
There are digipeaters who include a message storage, called Mailbox, which allows to store and forward messages addressed to the individual HAMs.
