FAX (Facsimile)
The FAX system is used to transmit pictures. In early FAX systems, a picture was mounted on a cylinder, then an electro-optical sensor scaned the rotating picture and converted the brightness into audible tones. These tones were then transmitted by radio. | |

A FAX signal can be recognized by the typical 'rotating' tones. Today the rotational FAX systems are replaced by the computer scanner systems. FAX mode is still in use to send nice pictures by radio around the world. The transmission time is 1 to 5 minutes, depending on the resolution and the size of the picture. |
