Telegraphy by Morse Codes (CW)
Communication is through tones, which are controlled
by switching the transmitter on and off. The operator on the receiving side decodes the morse
code by listening. The Morse Code was developed by Samuel F.B. Morse. The individual characters of the
morse alphabet are composed by sequences of short and long tones (dots and dashes).
Morse Code (CW) is the oldest operating mode in
radio communication. CW is becoming less important today, but still many HAMs like
this mode and practice CW with much love!
CW has many advantages, because it ...
- requires only little technical effort
- provides much excitement
- is easy to understand internationally due to short abbreviations
- is very noise resistant
- permits long range communication with little power
